Open to suggestions...Just open to ideas. I plan on sanding it down and painting it black and a contrast color (not yet decided). Then apply stencils maybe. This will be my 1st ever attempt at this type of project.

dont be afraid to try ..I am in the middle of doing the same thing. I have painted my chairs black and we are about to paint the spindles Orange. We are bikers so we are going with the HarleyDavidson colors we are adding decals to the back of the chairs and then polyurethane. Then we start the table. same way. These will be used in my Florida room for entertaining..So sounds like you are on the right track!!! Good luck!!

Are you using this as a kitchen table? or dining rm?Just my opinion, but in the kitchen I use more'fun, informal colors, and more traditional colors in the dining rm.Where are you thinking of using a contrasting color? on the table's legs, maybe?

I think I would paint the chair backs, aprons and legs and the table legs and apron any color you want, but leave the chair seats and table top the wood tone. From experience, it's really hard to get a smooth, professional finish on your first project, so keeping the factory finish on the seats and table top will give you a more professional looking end result.

Depending on what style you like or what style your home is. If the room is small you should want to stay with light colors. Dark colors will make it look smaller. If you like country you could go with eggshell color then take fine sand paper and destress it. If your more into modern you could do some stenciling with straight lines like triangles. If you like something cute and whimsey paint a light color then find some fun stencils, flowers, stars etc. Have fun

Make your own chalk paint up and there is no need to sand.. You can make any amount of colours using little trial size pots

If you'd thought of a fabric that you'd like as a runner, cushions or chair cover, take your 2nd colour from there. The set has clean, modern lines, but the back 'X' of the chair is a more elegant feature, so you could decorate either way. Solid black or red is a great background for Chinese or Japanese influenced graphics or pattern (the latter being easily rendered with a stencil, easily sourced too). One word of caution: chairs have a lot of surfaces and are not as quick as you might think. Consider first doing an embellishment on the table top (big bang for your effort), after which you can decide weather to continue working on chairs or just wrap the project up.

Your contrast colour is dependant on where you are using it and what decor is around it. I have always liked a cream colour to contrast with black - pretty basic but classy and will fit with any decor.
