A friend is giving me an old cast iron tub

My friend asked me if I wanted this 300lb. tub. I said yes...of course. But, now reality. I need some ideas of what to use it for, or decorate it for spring? It's not at my house yet.

You could turn it into a combo water feature and garden of flowers. I've also seen them turned into a small love seat by cutting out one side of the tub. What a great gift!

I would kill for an old cast iron tub in my bathroom! Refinish it and use it! :-)

You can make it in to a flower bed. Paint the base a funky color, add a little dirt and put colorful annuals. Be sure to position it first and tilt it to show it's insides because that sucker will be heavy and get your rustoleum going to prevent too much rust from damaging it. Or you can use it as an outdoor spa. Just put it someplace where you can plumb it easily and put lovely plants and screening bushes around it and drag on your bathing suit, light some candles and let the water flow. You'd have to build it on a base of maybe river stones for drainage but that would be a nice way to end a hot day.

We have a 1835 cast iron tub we bought at an antique shop in Indiana, we had to rent a trailer so we could bring it back home in Florida. We had it sandblasted and reglazed. The guy that redid it for us said ours was the first tub from that Era that he had redone that had its original feet. (Eagan feet clutching a sphere. We have used for over ten years now, it's a wonderful soaking tub, that even my husband loves. I say redo it and put it in your bathroom.

You might want to check if you need your floors reinforced for a tub that heavy, esp with the added weight of the water and bather!Don't learn the hard way, coz' you'll have to have the tub hauled out and returned to its place after fixing the floor damage! Very $$ and a darn hassle... I'd put it in the garden and make a water feature out of it! Make sure to put it on pavers or something to keep those clawed feet from disappearing into the soil!
