I was searching for some pots to make a diy fountain with and found this pot at a yard sale. When i cleaned it up I realized it was hand painted and had paintings inside and a character type signature...I don't want to drill a hole in it if it is not something I want to damage...any ideas?

It's an interesting pot. The interior has a completely different look, far more traditional in the pattern than the exterior cloisonne African theme. I think that the pot was designed for export since the exterior pattern is non-traditional, but I couldn't begin to guess at its value. It looks like an inexpensive pot I would find in China Town, however. The clay does not seem to be high quality so I think that you'd be okay in using it as a planter. That's my opinion, anyway.

Thank you, i appreciate the observations...you're right the clay is pretty thin and painting not real finely done...again thanks...will now make beautiful inside fountain..

@Rebecca Justice I agree, this is beautiful...expensive or not. I wonder what a pot with painting inside is used for?

It's actually a planter, I think. This one has the same shape and lip.

It is a Japanese Koi pot. They use them to bring their fish in the house in the winter. I spent 8 years in Japan, most Americans use them as house plant holders. They are very common. So go ahead snd do whatever u want to it.
