Dorothy Collett on Apr 19, 2015A mix of corn meal and baking soda in jar with a hole cut in the lid seems to work the best for me. I have also started using epsom salt early in the spring to fertilize my beds which also might make a difference. Removing all hiding places helps: gaps under pots, in stone walls, old wood, etc. Then there is the sure way of catching and killing the slimey things. Good luck with your snail hunt.Helpful Reply

Maree Hayter on Apr 19, 2015Jan, just mix it with water in the watering can. Epsom salts provides magnesium, which some soils are lacking (especially here in Australia)Helpful Reply

Maree Hayter on Apr 19, 2015Back to getting rid of snails - Kitty litter sucks the slime from under them so they can't move. They HATE trying to move over the sharp spikes of crumbled egg shells. Black coffee sprayed over everything that you want to protect is easy - the caffeine gives them a heart attack, but you have to respray after it rainsHelpful Reply

Maxine R on Apr 19, 2015The same as getting rid of slugs, take lid, bury it in the mulch very shallow and pour a little beer into lid. They crawl right into the beer and drowned. Won't hurt the dogs!Helpful Reply

Capernius on Apr 20, 2015SAY WHAT?!? and waste a perfectly good guinness? roflmao...I'm joking Ms. Kathy.... I quit drinking 25 years, 8 months & 3.5 weeks ago.... I do not know if it will work for snails, but I know it works for termites....all around you garden, or anywhere else they be & the copper pipe acts like an electrified fence.what I was told is that you NEVER EVER have to plug it in or unplug it....there is something about the copper piping, that prevents snails, slugs, snakes, etc from entering your yard and garden. of coarse, you can always look the li'l buggers up with the computer, to find out if they are eatable by humans....if they are, then make some Escargot for your hubby.Helpful Reply

Julia Hanmer on Apr 20, 2015I've also been told to take pine needles and put around your plants like using mulch , so I mulched one of my flower beds with nothing but pine needles this year keeping my fingers crossed, I've tried the kitty litter ... works until it rains...Helpful Reply

Debra on Apr 21, 2015Save your eggshells! I put in microwave for 1 minute on high. They are easier to crush. Place around your plant.Helpful Reply
