Any suggestions for wall paint color?
However, I would like to change the wall color after more than 15 years and I'd like to create a very calm looking room, but I do want the Indian sideboard to stand out in the room. Depending on the light, it changes color a bit from grey washed to a more yellowish color (see photos).
I've already tried several colors on sheets of wallpaper that I pinned onto the existing wallpaper, but haven't been happy with any of them. The room gets a lot of bright light in the afternoon and evening.
I like SW Sea Salt or Gris color, but I'm not sure if they would go with my sideboard.
Any suggestions (e.g. Sherwood Williams colors)? Or a nice chalkpaint for walls?

Margaret on Apr 19, 2015It seems to me, shades of light brown are the new neutral. Lots to chose from many with coffee colors. Mine is called onion skin. Its very pale tan with orange tones. I love it. Im sorry I dont remember the brand name buts at Lowes or Home depot.Helpful Reply

Barbara on Apr 19, 2015For me nothing seems as calming and restful as soft dusty blue. You can color match a blue or bluish-green from the art pieces you hav. Benhamin Moore will color match for you or you can take a photo with you and color match at Lowes or Home Depot.Helpful Reply

Susan on Apr 19, 2015Take the bright shade of turquoise that is in the fabric!! It will make the fabric and furniture pop. Since you get a lot of sun, this will make it a cheerful, fun room saturated in color.Helpful Reply

Lisa House on Apr 19, 2015I went with a color I loved instead of a color that was popular to use this season...I used a soft teal in my living room (sea foam), my woodwork is all very dark and this color lightened my room and made it feel bigger, is 15'x15'. I have off white distressed picture frames, a lot of seashells, and pops of coral in the room. Once I was done I received the ultimate compliment from my hubby, " it feels very comfortable, relaxing, and beachy"... Exactly what I was going for!Helpful Reply

Shirley Midgett on Apr 19, 2015I watch a lot of HGTV type shows and gray seems to be really popular right now altho it is not a favorite of mine. I like a really pale sunny yellow, brightens everything, or a sea glass blue, so soothing, but might not stand up to your more colorful things. Be sure to post pictures of what you decide.Helpful Reply

S. on Apr 25, 2015Thank you very much everyone for your input, which was very helpful. I have checked out a lot of your suggestions and digged more into different color worlds. It's a little problematic because I live in Germany and we do not have e.g. Sherwin Williams colors here, so I need to try to find something with similar colors here. Anyway...I went to another store today to check out their paints. I asked for something like a very light beachy/minty green or a warm grey. I took a sample pot (1 Liter is not really just a little sample and it really costs, but oh well...) of a color called Coffee; it comes in different shades. I think it took the fourth lightest. It looks slightly muddy when you first paint it onto the wallpaper and I was a little worried that my sideboard, candle holders etc. would sort of disappear in front of that it, but I think it looks pretty nice. I might have found the color for my living room. Maybe, just maybe I'll try one of those slight beachy green colors just to make sure I really got the effect that I wanted. I'm pretty sure though that I'll stick with that warm grey tone. Again, thank you everyone! The photos were taken in different lights and/or different camera settings.Helpful Reply
