Can I paint an outdoor sisal rug?

We have a nice back yard patio and want to replace our indoor rug for something durable. It needs to weather the rain and sun. We can't find burgundy, so we would like to dye or paint an outdoor rug to match our decor. Any products that can do this?

You can paint it with Exterior House Paint. Just be sure you get it all inside the fibers.

  I wonder if I need to add anything to turn the exterior paint into fabric paint so it won't crack or chip off the fibers.

@diamondvalleygirl also after you paint it, ask at lowes or home depot foe water proofing, which will help it to last longer!

  Oh, great idea! And maybe just do one side so it is reversible with the neutral color on the back side.

  I thought I saw someone use a canvas tarp in tan as an area rug. That would be a lot cheaper! But don't know how the paint would hold up on the canvas. If it would crack. Hmmm?
