The Elusive Card Catalog and How I Repurposed Mine!

I got two of these old oak library catalogs. The one I did sat below it's twin, which had a top. I decided to make a custom herringbone pattern out of white oak. The catalog was stripped, sanded and stained and the custom top was added. I attached hairpin legs to give it a little industrial vibe. The entire process and how-to can be viewed on my blog, "Makemeprettyagain.blogspot.com"
Remove all the hardware, taped numbers, apply soy gel stripper, scrape, clean, sand and re-stain! Piece o'cake! (not) Make sure you number your drawers so you can put them back in the same spot!
A frame was made (It has to be perfectly square!) from the same oak planks. Math is your friend here. If not, you are going to run into big troubles with getting them all to fit. I actually should have started my first piece a little more to the left.
I started with 4-5' oak planks, ripped them to 1" pieces and then cut them again to 5". They were all sanded and stained in a walnut stain. Measure very carefully when cutting and when making your frame! Step by step for this is on my blog.
All the pieces in place, sanded and gaps filled with sawdust.
My friend purchased this from me. Although I got shorter legs for her as she is only 4'11"!! And I fixed that one drawer front with the bad stain job!
wine bottles fit perfectly inside the drawers
Here is the shorter version my friend got and you can see the other one behind it!
