Any advice on what paint to use for lead came on front door glass!

Question

Will be painting front door & lead came between lead glass, it is faded & needs new paint to make it look new again. What kind of paint should I use for this?

I don't think paint will work on lead very well. You could try a product called Novacan Copper Patina. It will turn the lead a darkened copper color which better than the oxidized lead I think. I would buy that and also a piece of lead to test first to see if you like the finished result. Lead will never be shiny or have that new look unless you solder over it and that would be very tricky to try. Good Luck!

There are paints specific for use on any metal. I'm not sure paint is the correct description. The liquid will transform (react with) or retain the metal and available in a multitude of metal finishes.Most hobby stores carry it....Metal Masters. Have used it forever and love the results. Couldn't insert the link, just search their name and the link will show up.

Thanks to all who gave suggestions...I have actually found a paint that is working on the lead very well. I am using Rustoleum Oil Based Protective Enamel in Gloss Smoke Gray which is the color of the original lead came. I previously painted it in a light gold metallic years ago which is now worn off as the door gets direct hot sun. Now I want to get back to the original gray came color & it is a painstaking job with a tiny sable brush but it is working!
