Does anyone have a formula for keeping ants out and away from my house?

We were over ran with ants about a month ago. I tried everything and nothing seemed to work. I finally got a cotton ball and put peppermint oil on it and they are all gone now. Ants hate peppermint.

Diatomaceous Earth . It kills all crawling insects & is safe & easy to use. Purchase @ health food store

I had sugar ants all over my kitchen counter. Put some bay leaves out and haven't seen one since.

Mix: 1/4 cup borax, 1/4 cup sugar with 1 cup hot water Soak cotton balls in mixture and place in vicinity where the ants are. They will converge on the cotton balls like crazy. Then, in a couple days will be completely gone. They carry the mixture back to the nest so it kills the whole colony. It works - I tried it and it's amazing.
