Eglehawk on May 01, 2015We redid all the floors in self stick tile. You have to put Luan board over existing subfloor. But most homeowners can do this themselves. If not home depot can do it for you but I don't know what the fee would be.Helpful Reply

Ginger Robinson on May 01, 2015I live in a double wide and we redid our floors. We put plywood down for the sub floor and put wood floors and laminate floors everywhere. It's really nice.Helpful Reply

Shari on May 01, 2015A couple questions come to my mind. First, can you (or a family member) do any DIY? Do you still have the dog (or other pets)? If you have pets, I DO NOT recommend laminate. It's not particularly "budget friendly" compared to some other options (at least my laminate wasn't) and laminate can be very moisture sensitive. That means if you have any pets that have accidents (all pets have accidents at one time or another), the laminate can be easily ruined. My cat, who has a very sensitive stomach, threw up in our little-used front foyer and I didn't see it right away. Now, as a result, I have a spot where the laminate has bubbled from the moisture in the vomit. Laminate is also noisy to walk on (the click, click click of dog toenails almost drove us crazy when we had dogs), and it can be slippery for animals to walk on. I would suggest you take a look at TrafficMaster "Allure" vinyl planks or vinyl, in general. Vinyl has come a long, long way in recent years and it is very durable, soft and quiet to walk on, easy to care for, and it's great for homes with pets because accidents wipe right up. The TrafficMaster "Allure" (sold at Home Depot) comes in various styles and colors, and the planks are very attactive, mimicking the wood look. I have Allure in one bathroom and love it so much, I would really like to replace all my laminate with it. Allure is very affordable, costing right about $2.00/sq. ft. It is also said to be an easy DIY project since you just need something to measure with, and cut the planks to size (like a utility knife). Having someone install it will add to your cost but in addition to getting quotes from the big box stores, ask friends and neighbors if they know anyone in the flooring installation business. Sometimes floor installers work side jobs and can offer you a better price.Helpful Reply

Kathy Munson on May 01, 2015I was going to mention to treat or replace the sub floor where the "accidents" happened. Otherwise with new flooring they will still go in the same places.Helpful Reply

Pamela on May 02, 2015I redid my family room In my 1978 mobile home with wood planks. I had it installed by home Depot. It turned out great, however, it was not cheap because of the cost to install. If you can find someone to do that for you the wood flooring isn't that expensive.Helpful Reply

Norma Roca on May 04, 2015Go with Shari ideal. I have been buying and rehabing mobiles for years. It's a very friendly and inexpensive way to do floors in a mobile. But if the yearn has soaked in to the wood sub floor youll need to clean the floor and use kills on it first. This will block the smell from coming back. We use the flooring strips from lowes. The only thing is that after a lot of foot traffic, the floor will wear down and you will see light spots. Just use regular wood stain on these spots. One that is similar to the color of your floor. Youll do great, its fun and easy.Helpful Reply
