Rocking chair

Question

I bought this rocking chair 31 years ago when my son was born. It's time to do something with it. Looking for ideas.

If you want to keep it as a rocker,I would first lightly sand it and repaint in a lighter shade and make cushions for it to match my decor. then sat it in that room or put in bed room yours or guest.

I would lightly sand it, paint it white, make black & white checkerboard around seat, and take each little turn of the wood and paint them different colours

I would remove the legs, sand it, paint it a lovely color of your choice and hang it on a wall for a plant holder or use it for cookbooks in your kitchen.

Don't take it apart. Sit in it and remember rocking babies. You can strip and sand and paint. Or just paint.

Thanks everyone.  Painting it it is! I decided to paint it white and put it on my lanai with my white wicker furniture.  It should fit right in!

I'm not sure Billie.  But I bought it from Montgomery Wards 31 years ago and it's extremely well made.  Some type of hard wood (Oak? Mahogany?) and very comfortable.  The seat is slightly concave for comfort.

I have the same identical chair All the way down to the silk screening on the headrest I took It apart with a rubber mallet, I stripped it. 6 layers later I started to sand it with 60 grit( light sanding my A**)  and sanded it down to the bare wood taking off the walnut stain. I happen to be just about ready give a nice Brazilian Cherrywood stain.  It really is very comfortable. As comfortable as wood furniture can be anyhow. I've been doing antique furniture restoration for quite a little while and I love that style of chair in a rocker. The chair is made from two different types of wood. The seat is just a regular white pine and the rest of the chair I believe is Elm I'm not exactly sure what the so-called scientific name of the chair is. Maybe an 'Antique  wooden rocking chair. But I'd call it a keeper.  A very versatile piece of wood furniture  because it seems to fit into just about any kind of household style setting.

I have that exact rocking chair. It was a gift for my Mom from her brother at her baby shower. I stained it dark about 15 years ago but now want to update it with paint. Makes me smile though to see yours how I remember mine as a little girl. :)

I had the same rocking chair too, rocked my babies to sleep, it is about years old. Loved it and would never paint it. Although produced in masses, it has sentimental value.

Sell it as is - It looks good to me. Shame to paint over it! Better to buy something that now suits your lifestyle.

I clear coated mine after a good cleaning, I now use it on the patio.
