How is hand pollination done in gourds?
-
Wanda Rodgers on May 06, 2015The female flower will have a round knob behind the flower. The male flower will not have that round knob. You can pollinate by taking a q-tip and grabbing a little of the pollen from the stamen of the male flower and rubbing it on the pistil of the female flower. Doesn't take much to exchange. You should be able to pollinate several flowers from one male flower. Good luckHelpful Reply

Kathy Ruth on May 07, 2015Wanda is right. I had to do this last year because my HOA sprayed the common areas and so there were no bees. No HOA at our new house! YAY! (I did get squash, btw!)Helpful Reply
