I need your ideas to turn this bench shabby chic. Help!

Cynthia H on May 10, 2015I would paint it all one color (I just saw a black bench today that I loved) and/or add some nice cushions in a cheerful print. The storage is a real plus. Just an idea for a cushion - I was going to buy one for a window seat we have and found one of those overstuffed cushions for outdoor furniture that fit perfectly in a pretty pattern. Sometimes the best ideas develop when you carry those measurements around with you, until you find just what you're looking for!Helpful Reply

Penny Small on May 11, 2015I like Cynthia's idea of one color, but maybe make it a lighter color (that works with the rest of your decor) and use a darker stain or wax (if you used chalk paint) in the carved embellishment. That would give it some dimension. Love the idea of the cushions too!Helpful Reply

JoAnn on May 11, 2015Wow, it is very nice the way it is. I would change the stain in the wood. I would not paint it. The frame I would make it look vintage. I am usually all about pops of color, this I see more vintage/shabby chic in soft elegant pillows.Helpful Reply

Linda Dorn on May 11, 2015Cute bench, I would put a Paris design on it. Paint it all black put a French Stencil on the two back areas, the front edge I would put a Black and White stripe. Then and find a black and white cushion. I added a example of a Paris design I did.Helpful Reply

Denise Hardy on May 11, 2015I would go with the black and white of what @Linda Dorn suggests - this would make a beautiful 'statement' piece for wherever you are going to put it. But.... I would perhaps go either white or black for the frame work and legs and vice versa for the seat and the back and perhaps put a French Stencil on the back and a beautiful cushion in black and white across the whole width of the seat :)Helpful Reply

Sherrie on May 11, 2015If you stain it, stain it walnut. But I would paint it. If it is yours a color that would pop against your paint. If your selling it old white, a French stencil and it will sell like crazy!Helpful Reply

Wjc1425650 on May 11, 2015I think I would paint it all black then paint all white!! Sand edges and poly over it all! May sound weird but would give depth- and very shabby sheik!Helpful Reply

Mcgypsy9 on May 11, 2015I think it looks pretty good the way it is, however, I would make the light wood lighter and then add a stencil to those two back framed areas. Then poly over the wood. Leave the black as is and add a few stenciled pillows if you want them or just cushions to the seat. GREAT FIND!Helpful Reply

Nancy on May 11, 2015Have you heard of Annie Sloan paint? It is the very best chalk paint on the market.... (In my opinion). To make it shabby chic I would paint it the color you love. Annie Sloan paint comes in about 18 colors... When you paint with the chalk paint it takes about 2 good coats.... And do not water the paint Dow. The very best thing about Annie Sloan paint is that you DO NOT have to sand before you paint.... Once you have 2 coats on then you sand very lightly and rub harder where you want it to look warn... There is a wax too and it makes your piece look amazing.... You do not need a brush to apply the wax, just apply with a white cloth other tshirt..... Good luckHelpful Reply
