Do I need to prime or size or both?

I have a three season room that I want to install paintable beadboard wallpaper to the (smooth and finished surface) plywood walls. Do I prime (oil or latex) and size the walls as well or will just priming do the trick? Thanks in advance for any help.

I have added the wallpaper without priming the wall, even to somewhat textured wall, with beautiful results. If the wallpaper is pre-pasted, I suggest using extra wallpaper paste, to make sure it sticks. Bear in mind, the wallpaper is very easy to get "dings and nicks" in. Even a scratch with a nail leaves a mark. I did kitchen backsplash it was ok, but the second time around I opted for the real thing. Application is not that difficult, it's durable and looks nice. When you get it on sale (like i did) the price is not too bad either.

When installing wallpaper, ALWAYS size the walls first. This will save you, or someone else, a lot of headaches later! Bob @ jxnHomeAndGarden.com

Hi - definitely size the walls, especially in a room that may be temperature sensitive - you don't want shrinkage due to heat or peeling - use extra wallpaper paste even if paper is pre-pasted to ensure good adherence.

Definitely prime first. We just finished hanging paintable wallpaper in a bedroom that had been previously papered. Our intent was no paper just painting but the old paper was leaving such a mess because previous owners had not primed or painted the wallboard. We have had no trouble with pre pasted wallpaper not sticking.

Yes, always size the wall first. Last winter I removed just the borders in four rooms so I could repaint, it took me weeks, scrapers, solutions to loosen the glue on the borders etc. It would of been so much easier if I would of sized the walls first. Learn from an old lady mistake, size those walls.,
