Master bath on a budget

We recently bought our first home and besides paint, it hasn't been that painful a process updating it. Our master bath though needs some love. We have this ugly garden tub with surround. The trim is starting to separate from the wall and I'd like to give it some new life since we can't afford to replace it. Would love some suggestions.
Love the pink tub with the surround that has silver trim. Not!
We also have this ugly structural pole to work around.
This is where it's separating from the wall. What's this behind? Will we need to replace that?

Home Depot and maybe lowes make some stone veneers that can be applied to tub surfaces. It really looks nice. Not sure about inside the tub area. If you apply it with the right adhesive it would look very nice also, but I would check with the manufacterer or someone knowledgable at the store. Available in several color options. Nice update!

@CS No, mdf is not a good choice near water. If the backing behind where the backsplash is coming loose is not moldy or mushy it should be fine, otherwise it will need replacing, & possibly any insulation behind it as well if it has gotten wet & moldy. I would replace the backsplash with a pretty tile & maybe go a bit further up with it, or a bead board could be nice since you'd like wainscoting & trim. Because the post is structural, embrace it don't fight it.... I would mount some pretty hanging candles on it for a nice ambiance while taking a bubbly bath! You can get paint to resurface/change the color of the tub & sink, but I've heard it can be tricky so you might want to check into having a professional do that. Frame out the mirror, update the faucets, & possibly paint or stain the cabinet if the oak color bothers you. Throw some color on the walls & you'll have a great bathroom!

Don't quite get the third pic so can't say. A shower curtain would hide the white support. (Do you know what it is supporting? - very unusual) I'd get rid of the tub "backsplash" and silver trim, and tile. The area is relatively small so it shouldn't cost too much. You could also add trim around the mirror. I have vinyl wallpaper in my bathroom including around the tub and have had no problem - many colours and patterns to give a new look.

That last picture shows what is behind the backsplash. One side has begun to pull away from the wall.
