I'm installing a new tub, need to level

D & K on May 20, 2015The short answer is...you don't. If your floor is so unlevel that the tub won't drain then the tub isn't the problem. The supports on the bottom of the tub need to sit a flat as possible on the subfloor. If by leveling the tub, the bottom supports become raised so that they are no longer flat against the subfloor, the tub will flex and the porcelain will crack.Helpful Reply

D & K on May 20, 2015Ok, if the area never had a tub and it was simply a shower here's what to do. Purchase a concrete mixture called "sand topping mix". It's simply a concrete that uses a sand and not gravel aggregate. Mix it as directed so you get a consistency similar to peanut butter. Pour your mix into the depressed area and screed or smooth it out with a short piece of lumber. Let it sit for a day and install your tub. Don't attempt to put any steel or reinforcement in the mix. Your goal is simply to get the area flat and don't worry about getting it level. The tub will have enough slope to it that even if it's unlevel by an inch or so it will still drain.Helpful Reply
