How does one create an affordable, moderately sized "cottage" garden when individuals plants can cost upwards of $5 per plant? Using self-seeding annuals. With proper site preparation, a bit of faith, and some patience, you can grow lovely poppies, Sweet William, Columbine, and other cottage garden favorites from seed!
Feverfew
Grow the cottage garden favorite "Feverfew" from seed. The plant can grow to nearly 2'-3' and offers the gardener a geranium-like fragrance. Once sown, feverfew reseeds prolifically, and as such provides a lovely backdrop for more structural types of flowers such as hollyhocks or roses.
Johnny Jump-up
Grow theses little lovelies from seed one year, and they continue to reappear, but always in a different place.
Love-in-a-Mist
Another self-seeding annual that reappears year after year. While the flowers are short-lived, its seed pod continues to provide visual interest.
