These are growing wild all over my yard and I would love to know what they are. I'm sure they are some kind of lily but need more info on care etc. Are they invasive?

Looks like Alstroemeria, or Peruvian Lily. They can spread like crazy

They are Peruvian Lily. A pretty filler flower loved by florists. They have a variety of colors, wish I had them.

Peruvian Lily or Alstroemeria. They are grown in bulb form, the bulbs being clear/whiteish. They will bloom more in a season if you PULL the flowers out when done blooming. I can get 3-4 bloom cycles in one season if I do this. They love the soil to be loose, like sandy. They are bulbs so they do multiply season to season. They will spread and take over an area. But if you keep pulling them out, or dig up the bulbs, you can keep them in check. They do make lovely bouquets, and last a long time in a vase. Be sure to PULL the flower stems out of the ground and trim them. This will insure re-bloom in your garden. You have a really pretty variety! Enjoy! Oh, and gophers will eat them, but I don't see that too often here in my yard.

These are NOT alstroemeria, I dissect these Peruvian Lilies weekly with student coming for field trips to our Garden. What you have is a variety of Cuphea. If you will look up their images on the Internet you could even find which variety.

Thank you so much. I couldn't believe they were alstromeria because I use those frequently in arrangements for church or party clients and to think they could grow in my yard was just too good to believe. I spent hours searching through every Cuphea I could find and though the actual flower is similar, especially firecracker or cigar flower the plants weren't quite right. So thank you for finding and sharing my actual variety so I could stop my search. And on another note, I've connected with a newcomer to my town who would like to have some of these when I divide them.

I have no idea, but if I ever get out into the yard to divide them I'll be happy to pass some on. I see no reason to buy plants for the garden when someone in your area has ones that need to be thinned out. When we lived in FL I belonged to a group that shared and traded plants, only thing I ever bought was a few herbs and vegetables.
  • Robin Miller Cresci had the righ one with the link to anniesmagicgarden.com/, 4 posts before this one. I have them contained and they have never spread. I will transplant some of them as soon as the rain quits here in the Houston, TX area. Right now I think I need to invest in a small ark as we have had rain every day for over 6 weeks at my house.
