Can egg shells get rid of garden slugs?
-
Vicky on May 26, 2015I've tried it in my garden, it doesn't seem to get rid of them but the slugs and snails don't like to go over them. I put a ring of eggshells around the base of a couple of plants the slugs/snails were eating and it stopped them. But over time the shells moved around and I noticed the slugs/snails were back eating the plant. So it helps but you have to keep the shells in placeHelpful Reply

Laura Gray on May 26, 2015I have good luck using cornmeal. Fill a pint jar 1/3 full and turn the jar on its side in the garden. Slugs LOVE cornmeal but can't digest it.Helpful Reply

Karen on Nov 14, 2015Diatomaceous earth: This cuts and dries out all kinds of soft-bodied pests, including slugs and ants. It's not cheap, but it's safe around animals (can even be sprinkled into fur to help kill fleas). The key to making it affordable is to use some kind of "duster" -- then only a very fine coating is laid, but more than enough to kill the bugs and slugs. I use it inside and out for ants, and in my garden for anything that may eat my plants.Helpful Reply

Marlene Oles on Jan 11, 2016I save my egg shells all year, crush them and are generous in their use especially around Hostas and slug loving plants, for me this is the perfect solution and find any damage at seasons end minimal. Hope this helpsand good luck.Helpful Reply

I know you can rid your lawn of moles by placing a piece of juicy fruit gum in the ground where they are tunneling. The moles can't digest the gum and it kills them.
