Goodbye 80's! Dining Area Remodel

The Rozy Home
by The Rozy Home
When we walked into the home we would eventually buy, we were shocked to see it looked like it was stuck in the 80's. Why? Because the house was built in 2001! The previous owner loved the details from the late 80's - down to the golden oak cabinets and brass "chandelier". It was a mess. After our kitchen remodel, we knew this was the next space we needed to tackle!
This is the space from the real estate listing.
And a pic from when we moved in (my baby brother and I were getting ready to demo all of that tile).
The first couple of years the space was more modern - dark walls with high contrast white curtains and lots and lots of Ikea furniture.
Then the space went brown with a blinged out light. I hated it and I'm not sure what the heck I was thinking.
Eventually, the space got a light and airy coat of paint, a new light, window grids, crown moulding, window casing and beefed up baseboards (all of those details can be found on the blog).
After years of abuse, the table needed a sanding. Unfortunately, it was junk wood so I used a faux wood grainer to give it character.
I gave some consignment store chairs a much needed makeover.
I purchased few items for the table (everything was from PB except the plates). Side note: Those chargers are a God send if you have kids! Instead of crumbs all over the table and floor, they land on the charger (which has worked better than any placemat I've ever used).
I worked hard to create a light and airy space that worked well with the kitchen. I'm able to enjoy my view and a hidden cellular shades (details on blog) provide protection from the hot, Texas sun. We really love how light and airy the space has become and am glad to say goodbye to the late 80's space!
Added a rug from Home Goods and that was it! The room was complete!

Maybe you were in your "depressionist phase" with that brown room. I liked the first one you did and the last one is lovely. I'm glad you got back to normal. :)

Hehehe that's about how it felt!!! It was just that "I don't know what I want" stage.

Huge improvement! We especially love the dark wood floors.
