Can I repurpose furniture that has mold on it?

Sarah on May 28, 2015Wood? Cloth? I would think that if it's wood and just on the surface you can clean the mold and it'll be fine. If it's cloth you'll probably have to take it down to the frame and reupholster. If it's destined for the trash anyway it doesn't hurt to try. :)Helpful Reply

Laura on May 29, 2015I would use 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils to clean mold off anything. I'd buy some less expensive but still pure brand (maybe aura cacia). I hate using my good oils to clean. Wear gloves and dilute some so you can spray it on. Diffusing it will also kill all mold spores in the room. The first oil that comes to mind is tea tree but there are others, probably lavender.Helpful Reply

Ann Edmondson on May 30, 2015Any of the ideas for cleaning the wood works. If you are going to repaint the wood, make sure you use KILZ brand paint (you can even get it in colors). This keeps the mold from spreading through out the piece of furniture and also attaching to the walls or floors. This will be time consuming and not an overnight job!Helpful Reply
