I have a raccoon who has a made the base of our fir tree his "potty tree". Any ideas on how to discourage him from doing this?

sprinkle/pour red cayenne pepper around the base of tree, or have it live trapped and transplanted to elsewhere.

@Barbara K NEVER EVER use mothballs! they are poisonous to everyone & everything that touches them, including Mother Earth! Mothballs should be permanently banned.

Moth balls work great to deter raccoons. After the raccoon moves on to a new potty tree, put lime out. Lime neutralizes the bad door, and soil PH so the tree doesn't die either. Lime also kills any bug with an endorsement skeleton, but is pet friendly too.

Raccoons are very smart creatures. So getting rid of one might be tough. Getting a coonhound might help.

PLEASE PEOPLE, Do not use mothballs! they are toxic to everyone & everything including the Earth. Ms.Karen, can you plant prickly pear cactus at the base of that tree? if not then try cayenne pepper flakes/powder.... Just PLEASE do not use mothballs.
