Horseshoe-Handled Herb Box ~ Our Fairfield Home and Garden

My friend thought I had gone around the bend when I asked for the scrap wood from her laundry room renovation. Come see what I made with it!
From a 1940's home, this was solid wood with lots of character. Perfect for one of my diy projects.
With just a few materials: a handsaw, nail and paint leftovers and a Dollar Store foam brush, we were ready to start!
Some of the boards were attached and we decided those would be the base. We cut sides to fit (ends first, then sides). Then we nailed them together, added the handles and white-washed the box for a rustic look.
The horseshoes came from a friend's farrier and add the perfect country touch, don't you think?
Enjoyed the project?

Carole on May 30, 2015Another great save! Looks good. You have a good imagination for re-purposing. I went through a neighbours junk pile yesterday and picked up a perfectly good little kitchen trolley with 4 plastic baskets on wheels. It was very dirty. It looks like one that you might store your vegies in such as potatoes in the pantry. I took it home, cleaned it up and it is now in my garage/workshop holding my sandpaper sheets, sanding blocks, newspapers that I use to protect the garage floor whilst painting and so on. It now sits next to my workbench so I have these things to hand. Seemed silly to let this end up in the landfill. We also recently fitted some new palings to our timber fence as some of the palings had warped at the bottom. This is what I did with some of the old palings and an old window frame picked from the same junk pile.
