I painted my rod iron furniture with a rust-oleum spray paint. Wash it down real well and let dry. Then brush away any loose paint with a wire brush. Wipe off with a damp rag. Spray outside in a well ventilated area, several times, light coats - and make sure you turn the items upside down and sideways so you get in all the nooks and crannies! Mine has lasted for at least 10 years now.

@Cheryl Schmitke I painted my old metal deck furniture this way. I now have canary yellow furniture to match my personality! A few light coats is right. I only did mine two years ago, but I also left the set out all winter (no room) & it's still holding up.

Hi Annie, before you start clean furniture first. If there is any rust, remove with a stiff wire brush. Once the prep work is done and everything is clean and dry, you are ready to paint. I would suggest using Rustoleum. They have loads of colors to choose from and built in rust protection. You might want to go with 3 coats of paint. Remember light handed spraying is the secret to success.
