DIY Bird Bath For The Fence Or Deck Railing

I have a tiny garden and a tiny fountain which attracted a sparrow to bathe during the hot weather last week. It's not meant for birds bathing, so I came up with something else.
I found this flower pot ring and thought it could be useful for my fence. It came with stainless steel screws (bonus!).
Raising it up to the top of my fence gives a better vantage point for the birds.
Finding a cheap pie plate at a local thrift store made it more affordable.
Adding some stones gives the birds a great place to perch without the water getting too deep.
I'm loving the transparent water reflection too.

  • I'm sure it would. Although, the bird's poop and their grit from their plumage can make the base dirty and you won't see the colours. In the summer, I rinsed the pie plate every 2-3 days. Birdies bath-house. lol

@Heidi @ Heidi Ho-rticulture if you put a couple splashes of apple cider vinegar in it, it helps to keep down any algae growth. wont hurt the birds!!
  • Great tip, although every two days in the heat, I have to add water anyway. Pie dish is quite shallow.
