Kitchen cabinets-store bought

Country Design Home on Jun 05, 2015My husband and I installed cabinets from the Thomasville collection from Home Depot 6 years ago...and they look just as good today as the day they were installed. At about 1/3 the price as the ones we were quoted at "kitchen stores", the cabinets have stood the test of time. The soft-close doors and drawers work perfectly (and they carry a life long guarantee!) and the finish is still beautiful. The kitchen designer at Home Depot did the best job of utilizing our small space...out of all the plans we looked at from other places. Highly recommend!!!Helpful Reply

Paul Crawford on Jun 05, 2015I have bought the unfinished oak cabinets from Lowes or Home Depot off an on for years and have had good luck with them. I sand and stain and varnish them and they have stood up well. Redid my sons entire kitchen with cabinets from Lowes's ( thought they were a little better value ;price & quality than HD) more than 3 years ago and they still look and function well.Good value if you have the time and resources to do it yourself!Helpful Reply

Denise Eaton on Jun 05, 2015We've installed them in several homes. Just watch for the particle board ones. If they have a laminate over particle board, they are a little more durable, but if the drawer sides or the bottoms of the cabinets are made of particle board then beware-they won't last more than a few years. Cheaper isn't always a bargain!Helpful Reply

EdiLeck on Jun 05, 2015I bought some unfinished cabinets from both Lowe's and Home Depot to replace a Youngstown metal kitchen because the sink base was starting to rust. I bought some from Lowe's and some from Home Depot because I liked the construction better on some from Home Depot and others from Lowe's. I don't know if I would order them online and have them delivered. I spent quite some time in the store, with a square and level in hand, going through cabinets to pick the ones I wanted! I made sure to check and double check the construction because some of the cabinets did seem to be haphazardly constructed. I also had to check and double check the wood for blemishes because I planned on just sealing the cabinets and letting the wood just be wood (no stain or paint)! So far, i am pleased with the cabinets I bought! They seem to be holding up quite well, but then again, I do not have a high traffic kitchen. I don't have kids living at home and I don't entertain a lot.Helpful Reply

Liz on Jun 18, 2015I found a cabinet maker that can actually make the cabinets exactly the way I want for less than I can purchase at HD or Lowes. Yippie!!!! Now my dilemma is to remove the peninsula or not remove the peninsula?????? Entrance to kitchen is very small!Helpful Reply
