Best Pergola for Sun Relief!

My husband and I were debating between getting a pergola or canopy for our outdoor deck. This is the area that gets the most sun. It's almost unbearable on our deck during summer months. Having an umbrella over our patio table helps but doesn't provide as much shade as we'd like. Plus, who wants to be constantly opening and closing umbrellas? Can't tell you how many times we thought the umbrella will fly through our windows during intense winds. :)
Last summer, we decided it was time to get a fixed structure for our wood deck. Debating between a pergola or canopy, we ultimately opted for the pergola. So glad that we did! 1) Stepping out of the sliding doors off our dining room, you will see this view. More details and pictures HERE
Here's another angle:
I even hung paper lanterns on the pergola for our "Fourth of July" party.
We absolutely love our pergola. Love makeovers and home projects? Please visit LINK HEREto subscribe to newsletter. For more product info on our new pergola, please click on link below.

Gaylynn matherne on May 19, 2016Saw this at Lowes and thought about getting it,...then i read the reviews about how it will start rusting in a few months,....becoming unsightly,...and if the canopy is left up year round it will only last a few yrs. ...some owners even tried to seal it first and it still rusted,....better off with one made of treated wood.

Tee @ Beauteefulliving on May 19, 2016@Gaylynn matherne Hi Gaylynn. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I hear you on your concerns. As far as the canopy, we always take it off by end of Sept. Nothing lasts around if kept outdoors year round (especially since it gets windy here in the NE). There is slight rusting on the bolts but that can be covered with spray paint for touch ups. I agree with you that wood pergolas are great but they are generally more pricey for the size that we need. Plus wood pergolas also require some maintenance through the years. I hope you find the pergola that fits your needs. Thanks again for commenting!

Rfbradford on May 16, 2017Your right mine only lasted one year. I took the shade off for winter and put it back on this month but the wind tore it up. I'm going to see if the company will do something about the shade.

Does this hold water ? We had bought a canvas type cover and it held water and stretch out and got holes in it.

Tee @ Beauteefulliving on Mar 13, 2017Hi Tonie, the cover isn't water proof but the good news is that it doesn't hold water (not that I've experienced). The fabric is very strong. You can purchase the canvas separately if you are not looking to get the pergola structure. We will be reusing this canvas cover again this summer and into fall.

Tena Criss Snapp on Mar 15, 2017FYI....we had one something like this a few years until the fabric wore out and ripped. We then took black plastic lattes and screwed it to the railing on top. Good shade and works great through our Indiana snow too . Had to use black because there was no dark brown. you cannot tell either

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Can you buy replacement covers?
I had one I bought for Lowe's. Did you purchase it there? Check on warranty. I got three years use out of mine.
Does anyone know where to purchase/order a waterproof cover? I have the exact same pergola and too much rain.
