Ugly Front Flowerbed

Anna Ibarra on Jun 13, 2015What a cute little rental. You have it decorated so nicely, so you are already ahead in that area. I think a river bed can be a great way to do this, so long as you are not doing it. Then just put some pretty yard art or 1 -2 potted plants that need little care. I've seen so much worst from younger people who just don't even mow, so nice job so far.Helpful Reply

Elena Pendell on Jun 13, 2015I think the river rock is a good idea too. Remember to clear whatever you plan to do with your landlord first. Have you seen the garden art "flowers" that are made out of old plates and bowls? There are some on this site. I think they would look pretty in your flowerbed.Helpful Reply

Bonny McDaniel on Jun 14, 2015I know what you mean by not being able to get down and garden...my doctor said "don't bend over, whatever you do!" so most of my flower 'beds' are in containers and have bricks or cinder blocks under them so I can tend to them. I think the river rock idea is good but you might put weed block under the rocks first...hopefully someone can help you do that. The other bed with the nandina, I would just keep it pruned into hedge shapes and the same, perhaps, for the azalea in the front. It should be pruned right after blooming. As others said, a few container pots with flowers or the yard art...good luck.Helpful Reply

Connie Breimayer on Jun 14, 2015Can you get a 5 gallon bucket to sit on? the height might be just right for both knees and being able to reach to garden. I have a child's school chair that I use for this and it is perfect. I have arthritis in both knees and my back. My suggestion would be to find perennials when they are clearance over the next few months and put them in. They will come up every year. By buying them on clearance like this, you save a great deal and you can have flowers blooming all summer and fall.Helpful Reply
