A three panel dresser
-
Susan Bechamp on Jun 15, 2015I got a six drawer dresser in the same style from a garage sale ten years ago. The blonde wood veneer on top was missing. I sanded the entire dresser down and painted it with black acrylic paint. Since there were no drawer pulls, I bought two for each drawer in a square Oriental design at a local thrift store. I topped it off with an acrylic panel cut to fit. It has followed my son cross country through three different moves and still functions. His wife has added gold painted stencils to each drawer front and hung tassels from the handles of each top drawer. We evolve, so does our furniture.Helpful Reply

Kathy Owen | Petticoat Junktion on Jun 15, 2015Wow, It's gorgeous as is. I might paint just the cabinet white and leave the drawers natural...just use a little hemp oil or something similar to revive the finish on the drawers. If you wanted something a little more then get some fancy knobs from Hobby Lobby or Anthropology and drill holes in the drawers for the knobs.Helpful Reply

1673412 on Jun 15, 2015You should check Pinterest for some ideas. This is a mid-century modern dresser (or at least it is in that style, may not actually be from that time period), which is really trendy in the design world right now so a bunch of people are doing projects with similar styles. If it was me, I would find some period-appropriate hardware, do a really cool geometric or native american design on the top, then seal everything with a nice furniture wax.Helpful Reply

Victoria Kay Allison on Jun 15, 2015I love this piece. I would lightly sand the surface area and apply Java color gel stain by General Finishes found online at Woodcraft. Gel stain goes right over top of any other finish and looks much richer than painting. A dark finish like Java would look amazing for the modern style you want.Helpful Reply

Linda on Jun 16, 2015I would paint it with a coat of primer and then another coat of whatever matches your bedroom and then maybe stress it a little bit. Buy some old timey knobs for the drawers.Helpful Reply

Julie Gold on Jun 16, 2015Your comments are great. It is a beautiful piece and original from the 50's and in mint condition. I don't want to lose the general look of it but it does need some sprucing up! I think the stain idea is good and maybe paint around the frame. Thanks so much for your ideas.Helpful Reply

Robert Cervantes on Jun 16, 2015I would try and find a piece of glass, have it cut to the size of the countertop and decorate (under the glass) whatever your creative mind can come up with. Maybe change the look for each holiday or even the different seasons. You get to personalize and customize the look without damaging your awesome furniture. Hope this helps.Helpful Reply

Gloria tulip on Jun 16, 2015I have a Drexel dresser similar to this and I have often thought an improvement would be to add drawer pulls. As to give a modern look, I hesitate about advising to paint. I love the natural look of furniture and once you paint a piece, it can be almost impossible to go back to natural.Helpful Reply

Beth N on Jun 16, 2015It is a beautiful piece! I would hesitate to paint it if it is in great condition. If I were to do anything, I would paint either the frame and leave the drawers wood or vice versa. This would be in keeping with the look of the piece. I would never add pulls to something like this, it would take away in my opinion! However, I strongly believe that if it belongs to you, do what will make you happy. And no matter what, always have fun! Best of luck!Helpful Reply
