My newly purchased home has a basement that reeks of cat urine

The floor is concrete and still had cat litter scattered on it. It is so bad it makes my eyes water. I don't know if the cat also sprayed on the wallboard. Is there a service that takes care of this or a way that I can do it myself?

If they spayed the walls you will most likely have to replace the drywall. I would seal the floor with an oil based sealer. Good luck.

@Tonia I will try sealing the floor. If the smell goes away, I will know if I have to deal with the drywall. Thanks for the imput!

I had a litter of kittens contained in my mudroom. Before they finally learned to used the litter box, they peed & pooped behing my heavy storage cabinets. i scrubbed & scrubbed with vinegar......it got clean, but still stunk. I orderd this stuff.........saturated the wood and floors that had been nearly ruined. the product is Rocco & Roxie professional strength stain & odor remover. It actually works!!!!! ps...these kittens were from a cat I rescued. she is now spayed.

My cats sprayed years ago and the smell resurfaced last spring due to humidity. Idry cleaned my carpet with borax, washing soda and essential oils and it got rid of the smell...apparently it works on more washable surface when turned into a wet paste. I also put straight vinegar with essential oils (the oils aren't necessary but smell better than vinegar) in an old yogurt container. I just put some more in--1st time since last summer. It would help absorb the nasty smells while you are dealing with the floor.
