Attracting Butterflies to Your Garden With a Butterfly Bath

Planting flowers to attract butterflies to your garden is just one piece of the puzzle. Butterflies get thirsty too. So why not add a butterfly bath to your garden?
Its as simple as transforming a standard birdbath. I took a yard sale find and turned it into a butterfly bath in about 10 minutes.
Add a flat surface rock to the basin as a landing perch and some extra rocks and pebbles for sunning.
Butterflies need water to gain nutrients and sodium to provide energy for mating. As with a standard birdbath, fresh water should be added daily.
Place your butterfly bath in the garden where there are lots of flowers to attract the butterflies. Here mine sits in a sunny spot surrounded by sedum, salvia and monarda - all plants that butterflies love.
