Concrete floor which had flooring glued down

Gary Stenzel on Jun 23, 2015Do you have all of the old flooring up? I have seen kind of rough concrete made very beautiful with resin and pea gravel. The hardest part is spreading it evenly. Not sure if it would be a great idea for a DIY, but there are companies that do it really nice. Never checked into the cost.Helpful Reply

Mike_mckelley on Jun 23, 2015I have seen bare concrete floors in expensive condos. Removal of the old material from the concrete would need to be accomplished first. I would opt for a sanding of it as I am wary of using chemicals. That being accomplished, I would experiment with a color, which could be rubbed into the surface following by several coats of polyurethane.Helpful Reply

Carrie on Jun 23, 2015Use a heatgun to remove any leftover glue. Then you can paint your concrete any color, and use Rustoleum's clear garage 2 part epoxy sealer to finish it. Show room perfect. ~CarrieHelpful Reply

Mickie on Jun 24, 2015how did you get the flooring off in the first place? I live / work alone in this older home and have hated the indoor/outdoor carpet glued to my front porch forever, but I have limited funds and energy and want to be able to DIY and just have bare concrete, if nothing else. First things first! HOW do I remove this ratty 'carpeting'?Helpful Reply

Pat Keadle Gougler on Jun 24, 2015Once all glue and reside of flooring is off, you can stain the concrete and seal it or poly it. Ive had concrete floors in my last 2 houses. Easy to care for.Helpful Reply

D & K on Jun 25, 2015@carrie has the right idea although don't use a heat gun. Heating the glue will do nothing more than release noxious chemical and turn the adhesive into a gooey mess. Sanding the glue off doesn't work. You'll need to use a mastic remover. It's simply an adhesive remover designed for this situation. Once it's removed you can use a two part epoxy paint which is extremely durable, acid stain the concrete or whatever your heart, and wallet desires.Helpful Reply
