Hanging decor on vinyl siding. Hanging ferns on side rail of porch.

Saw a blogger here, 'martysmusing' where she hung decorative items on porch wall; and ferns on railing of porch. I tried putting things on porch wall; but hooks wouldn't stick. Even contacted 3M. They said hooks won't stick to vinyl. How can I put fern pots on porch rail; without damaging rail? Thanks.

there are hooks made for use on vinyl siding- picked up a package of them at Menard's, in early spring last year. the hook i used held the thermometer in place until a wind storm rolled it off.

Been to Home Depot and Lowe's. Was told both times they didn't have anything like that.
