Painting old tires

I have several tires I am planning to create an outdoor bench with. For those who have upcycled tires and painted them - how long does the paint last? I'm worried it will flake of quickly and not be worth the time to paint them. Any tips on making it last longer?

I used Rustoleum outdoor spray paint. It covered nicely and is holding up well. In Florida heat and storms. No flaking or fading. 6 months later.

  • Rustoleum Painters Touch spray paint, I painted some tires over 2 yrs. ago, no flaking or chipping. I'm in south east PA and they've survived 2 harsh winters with no problem.

I made raised veggie beds out of old tractor tires over 15 years ago. Our local building center recommended latex paint. So I brushed on white, exterior latex paint. It's now time for a second coat, but still doing the job. There weren't as many choices back then, but depending on the size of your project, a can with a brush is probably more economical. Have fun!
