Laminate countertops - Should I or not?
-
B. Enne on Jul 06, 2015I have always had laminate, and find it cost effective. Just don't put a hot pot/pan on it, wipe up spills and don't use it as a cutting board. The HD laminate looks more like real stone etc, but I don't find it to be any different otherwise, since most laminates are thinner now. It looks like if you scratch it, the colour may be a bit deeper, but I am not willing to test that theory. I went with laminate again recently, because I recycled oak cupboards, and wasn't sure if we would be gutting everything in 5 years or so. They look great, and even my friends who have stone, and Corian keep complimenting us on our choice.Helpful Reply

Mavis Ens on Jul 06, 2015I've had a number of different countertop materials - laminate is by far the easiest to look after in a functional kitchen. As mentioned before - don't put hot pots on it and use cutting boards for meal prep but then you would for any surface.Helpful Reply

Beth on Jul 13, 2015We did ours with the wilsonart HD from Menards. It looks great and has not worn at all. We did the whole "U" shape counter top with 2 sheets . EVERYONE loves it and has asked us to tell them about it. There are many colors to choose from. Ours looks like granite and the back splash is done w/black 9 inch floor tile we got on sale. The lites we put under the cabinets are great . When the lights are off it looks like you can see out of the kitchen under the cabinets. Like it goes on and on. (Done 4 yrs ago) for less than $300 dollars . Will use again if we want a change. Laminate is the way to go!!!!!Helpful Reply
