Carole on Jul 05, 2015There seems to be a crazy idea that all natural wood is beautiful. It is certainly not. Some is of course, but not all. If you want to paint it go for it. I think the dark wood and discoloured rattan is not a good look but that is my own personal opinion. I too would be happier with it painted if it were mine.Helpful Reply

LoriKindler on Jul 05, 2015I vote paint it! And then treat it with a dark wax particularly the decorative part on the top. Don't forget to post it when you get done.Helpful Reply

Barbara on Jul 06, 2015I have no hesitation about painting rattan or wicker. When the finish fades or chips and starts to leave 'droppings of paint' on my sunporch floor, power wash and paint are the next step. I'd go for it.Helpful Reply

Linda T on Jul 06, 2015Funny, so many posters chastise those of us who like painted things, yet you all above are unanimous! I would love to see the wood and metal a dark navy blue and the rattan, bright white, or even cream. However, it depends whether you will use it inside or out though!Helpful Reply

Jennifer Terry- Calm and Collected on Jul 06, 2015Here's my philosophy on whether or not to paint---if it is for me, in my home and I would get more joy from painting it than not painting---paint away! If you're looking to sell and it is more valuable unpainted...don't paint. It's a simple philosophy, but it works!Helpful Reply

Charlotte Wood Eckel on Jul 09, 2015It looks like you're making a bench from a headboard and stools. I'd go ahead and paint it whatever colors work with your decor. All the cane seems to be in very good condition, but are you planning to paint the stool legs to blend in?Helpful Reply
