Can I apply joint compound over top of a plywood wall?

SLS Construction & Building Solutions LLC on Jul 06, 2015It probably won't even last a year, maybe try Rock Hard wood putty (though if you have a lot of temperature or humidity swings...) or better yet just add in some caulking (smooth out with a little water) , prime & paintHelpful Reply

B. Enne on Jul 06, 2015You could put 1/4 inch drywall over it, or I suppose you could fill the seams with wood filler (like you do on a subfloor you want to paint), sand and paint.Helpful Reply

LoriKindler on Jul 07, 2015If it's a large area, you are going to have problems with smoothness. If that doesn't matter, sure why not? It's only for a year? Or perhaps cover it with corkboard for decoration? Easy way to thumbtack some décor!Helpful Reply

B. Enne on Jul 07, 2015You could wall paper it with clearance-priced paper...the previous owner had done that over panelling and it held up well.Helpful Reply

Deborah on Jul 07, 2015Adhesion could be a problem. There may be something you can mix in to help. Also, if you get any ground movement you could get cracking as the plywood will have less flex than drywall.Helpful Reply
