If I use Lowes chalky paint can I finish it after two coats with satin

Janel on Jul 07, 2015I just used chalky paint and I don't see why you can't use a shiny coat later. I personally will not use chalky paint again - it just didn't live up to all the hype I have heard about it.Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Jul 07, 2015Yes...I do it all the time. The only difference is I use a flat poly finish and seal all the tops of anything I do.Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Jul 08, 2015I always seal the tops and some times wax and use aging wax on the crevices. For a aged look. I had problems with customers wiping the wax off or sitting it in a hot room. I found this is the best solution for me. The crevices they aren't going to scrub. The tops are protected if they are a flat surface aging wax makes it look dirty so why not seal it instead. I do the first coat end to end. I use water base poly. The. I take a greenieor finishing sand paper and lightly go over it and put on a second coat. Let dry. It takes 30 days for it to cure but it gives a great finish. It usually is usable before that but that is how long it takes for curing. I like polyuthene better in tops. I know a lot of people might disagree with me but I also find it gives a better finish and my customers don't have to worry about the finish. If I wax anything it's the legs and sides. It gets less wear and less cleaning. I hope this helps.Helpful Reply
