DIY Industrial Shelf

This project was a little out of my comfort zone. Even though I used some old floor joists, this project involved some industrial pipes and flanges. This was my first time using them.
I admit, I was a little nervous about this project coming together-it's really not my style, but I do love how it turned out.
I was offered these pipes and flanges to use as a project. I searched and searched for the perfect weathered wood to complete this project. Everything I found didn't seem to work out for one reason or another.
then... these very old floor joists sort of landed on my doorstep. A neighbor was replacing a floor and removed these true 2x8's. I hauled them home using a wheelbarrow. These are the heaviest boards I've ever worked with. I was told that they are yellow pine.
After cleaning up the pipes and flanges, I used some spray paint to make them pretty again.
Enjoyed the project?
