I am part of the and I am so excited about it. This dresser had been sitting in my garage for a long time and it was ready for a re-do!
It was dirty and in dire need of some cleaning first. So I washed everything down with soap and water.
I masked the fronts of the drawers with paper then sprayed the inside and outsides of the drawers with a gray that is darker than the chalk paint I used on the front of the drawers and the dresser.
After two coats of the Americana Decor Chalk Paint - Yesteryear (that is the name of the color) this is what it looked like.
On the top three drawers I masked out the outline of my cityscape with tape. I would only be using the orange stain inside the masked area.
The sponsor for the July Fab Furniture Flippin Contest is Unicorn SPiT. They make these wood stains in beautiful colors and it is not harmful to pets or people. And as a bonus it smells like jasmine. I used the Phoenix Fire to create my cityscape.
This is what it looked like after two applications of the stain.
I used a cut sponge as a "stamp" and created windows for the buildings.
It was too stark and it needed some toning down so I used black and a lot of white acrylic paints to create a gray color that I liked. I added water to it to make it thin and applied it with a cloth over the top of everything.
To finish it off I sprayed Polyurethane Semi-Gloss varnish over the front of the drawers were the stain was and I used the wax for chalk paint on the rest of the dresser. Then I added the drawer pulls which really brought it together.
It is in our guest room which is really used mostly by my boys when they come home to visit. It is has gray paint on the walls and I am now adding orange accents. I love the way it turned out and it looks nice in the room which was in desperate need of some storage.
