Repairing cordless tools' batteries

I've heard a lot talk about repairing batteries used on cordless tools such as drills, saws, and sanders. Does anyone know where I can find this information. I have at least 5 batteries that I could repair versus buying them at $70 to $100 each. Thanks in advance.

Can be done, I have done it, depends on the battery pack and skill set you have. Not really for beginners.

Don't remember where I saw it 4-5 years ago but, I looked at the process and realized I did not want to go through the many steps required and found unless I did it often not worth the cost. I wound up buying "used" batteries off of eBay and so far, I'm into year two and they still last hours each. About half the cost of new. The person I purchased them from did the rebuild/recondition process.

As a former tool rep for Makita, my opinion is that it's not worth the cost or time if you can even get your battery open to the replace a bad cell. Batteries have a finite number of charges. The ni-cad having the fewest and the newer lithium having more. The biggest enemy is heat, a tool left in the sun will (lunch break, spare batt) will have a shorter run time.
