There are lots of vines but no potatoes found. Why?

  • Potatoes grow underground. Wait until the greens die and then dig up your treasure. Just rub off the dirt off of them and store them in a cool dark place. Good luck.

The potatoes plants will blossom, then the plants in a month or so will start dying, after they are all dead and brown, you very gently dig up the potatoes. or you will spear some. good idea to spray or dust for potato beetles which eat the flowers and greens,

Attached is a photo of potato plants we are currently growing. You mentioned having these in tubs. Are they pot bound? You may want to plant them in the ground. Potatoes love water. Potatoes will be ready once the plant dies off.

Have you been covering the vines over with soil?

@Marie I admit, I've never had any luck with potatoes and they're so cheap I quit trying, but I understood you keep hilling them for quite some time, not just when they're small. Still, I'm the person who planted a potato bin with 7 seed potatoes and, after months of hilling and waiting, harvested...7 potatoes.

I grew mine in tubs also...when the leaves turned yellow, I dug up a nice crop of potatoes...many small to medium size. I can't grow them in the ground because I have voles on the property.
