What is the best paint to use on my wooden kitchen cabinets?

Joyce on Jul 17, 2015I just redid my kitchen cabinets with Kilz2 latex primer and Sherwin Williams latex self leveling paint designed for kitchen cabinets. I am very happy with the results, it's very durable, and does not stick. I had to use 2 coats of kilz2 because my cabinets are the ones with the pinkish finish, and it bled through a little. The difference is amazing. it looks like a new kitchen.Helpful Reply

Diena Cameron on Jul 17, 2015Hi, i have not used this paint yet but did order some. It's called Country Chic, it's the brand and then the new paint they came out with is called Decor. You supposedly don't have to sand or prime and it's low VOC and the paint is really durable and cleans up beautifully. Hope this helps. I just ordered some of they're regular paint for a chest. It's on the web at Country Chic. comHelpful Reply

Poppies Paint Powder on Jul 18, 2015Hi Wanda, I recommend Poppies Paint Powder. You simply add it to your latex paint and it turns it into paint for chalk painting. Chalk Painting will eliminate a bunch of the prep work. Another huge advantage to using Poppie's is that you can mix it with any color or brand latex paint. www.poppiespaintpowder.com.Helpful Reply

JulieArt on Jul 18, 2015prep work is very important! Clean the grease off with krud kutter and rinse really well with alcohol. Use a good primer then a good quality latex paint. Benjamin Moore has a hybrid paint called Advantage as does the Sherwin Williams post above. Chalk paint is wonderful for furniture but not for kitchens. It is too soft.Helpful Reply

Linda Couckuyt on Jul 18, 2015I've used the Benjamin Moore Advantage mentioned by JulieArt and found it to be amazing. I cleaned the surface first but did not do any special cleaning and the finish was great. I get a lot of compliments on it. I imagine if you go the extra mile with the cleaning as mentioned, it will be even more amazing. This was the first project I used this paint on and I could feel the difference, not only with it flowing on but also in the look.Helpful Reply

Teri Broberg on Jul 18, 2015I chalk painted mine in CeCe Caldwells chalk and clay paint. The only prep work I did was to clean. My neighbor is doing hers the old fashioned way. I have been watching her sand and prime for weeks. She thinks she won't be finished until the end of summer. I don't think the chalk paint is too soft. I have painted all my windows and trim as well with the same paint, and it has held up to the elements. Chalk paint is a real time saver. I chose a non-yellowing sealer called AFM Safecoat Polyureseal which worked fine, but my waxed furniture gets wet all the time and has held up, so I think a wax coat can also work. Good luck with your project.Helpful Reply

Debbie motley on Jul 18, 2015I painted my wood kitchen cabinets black with paint esp. for cabinets at Lowes. Sales lady said it would cover in one coat! NOT! About 3 coats but looks great now. It has been about 8 months ago, still looks good.Helpful Reply
