hardwood floors

KMS Woodworks on Feb 04, 2013This depends a bit on how the hardwood floor is finished, The far majority of hardwoods are either finished with some form of a polyurethane or a commercial product like some of the ceramic or Aluminum oxide finishes. You need to keep in mind you are cleaning this protective "plastic" layer not the actual wood. The key to success is to use the barest minimum of of water and cleaner, Steaming, "oil soaps", and moping are BIG mistakes. Generally a damp towel or swiffer type rig is the best. If too much soap is used it will leave a residue and attract more dirt. You can read more in this article I wrote http://www.networx.com/article/exotic-wood-floor-finishes-you-havent-sHelpful Reply

Designs by BSB on Feb 04, 2013may I politely suggest you also search this topic here on HomeTalk -- I have witnessed the discussion of it numerous times and as @KMS Woodworks has said -- it depends on your hardwood. not all are created equal.Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Feb 04, 2013I am in a high end cleaning business I use Bona also. I use micro fiber mop that is very lightly misted with water. ( Water is you enemy.) It spread smoothly and leaves no streaks. People will suggest vinegar as a all natural cleaning method. This is the very worst thing you can use. They will tell you Granda Ma used it. Grandma's floors were waxed. They waxed them several times a year in the good ole days. Your are cleaning the sealer on top of the floor. There isn't sealer underneath the floor which water will damage and wrap because its not protected underneath. And the sealer on top of your floors is what is protecting your hardwoods.so if it gets damaged it will damage the wood. If you know what kind of floors you have you can google ( Cleaning and Installation ) of the product. I do this for every new surface before it is cleaned and copy the instructions and follow it to a T.Helpful Reply
