Vintage and Salvage Birdfeeders II

Adventures In Junking
by Adventures In Junking
A small collection of vintage pieces makes a romantic feeding station for the little songbirds so dear to my heart.
A silverplated condiment trivet was lined with screening and planted with tender ivy, pansies and moss and then hung from a repurposed banana hanger. A small sterling silver tea strainer was filled with birdseed and hung from the centre of the trivet. An antique china sugarbowl is filled with pretty salmon coloured annuals. Colour is very important to our avian friends (http://birding.about.com/od/attractingbirds/a/Colors-That-Attract-Birds.htm) so I always try to include some in birdfeeding stations to attract the birds.
The antique crocheted throw adds to the soft, romantic country look. An antique whale oil lamp is repurposed as a birdfeeder by removing the original shade and adding an antique glass bowl filled with seed. The arms of the lamp provide great perching opportunities.
Antique metal kitchen implement is stuffed with fresh grapefruit and hung on the garden wall where little songbirds can pick away at it.
Wonderfully rusty antique washday plunger flipped upside down and placed in the garden amidst a antique child's rocking chair and colourful flowers makes a whimsical birdfeeder.

I really like the one with the flowers below the feeder. You benefit the birds and they fertilize your flowers! : ) And it is beautiful as well.
