How can I deter animals in my garden?
-
Taffetal on Jul 30, 2015I live in Canada where the deer masacre the cedar bushes and trees ever winter - because they are starving! I stopped planting cedars. Adjust your garden to the wildlife creating a balance. If you don't respect or like wildlife, move to the suburbs.Helpful Reply

Margaret Kleinfelter Schalk on Jul 30, 2015Mix Tabasco sauce with water and spray on the perimeter of your garden and plants. The smell and taste will deter them. You will have to reapply if you get heavy rains. It deters the mice from my foundation. The hardware stores also sell a deterrent product that works too but a bit pricy. Good Luck.Helpful Reply

Georgia Garrett on Jul 30, 2015I am constantly trying new things to keep the deer from eating my flowers. My latest from Ace Hardware seems to work better than any other. It's simply called Ace Deer Deterrent. I'm not sure if it works on other things. I know they are hungry and lived here before me but there are other things they can eat beside my flowers.Helpful Reply

DORLIS on Jul 30, 2015There is a product called "Liquid Fence", but it does have to be re appied after a rain. It does work. It is based on rotten eggs and garlic and the smell goes away after a few minutes, at least for humans.Helpful Reply

Craftyfox on Jul 30, 2015put human hair around the edge of where you want to keep them out. Marigolds and lavender are also good for keeping pests outHelpful Reply

Cathy Spiller on Jul 30, 2015Trish, it helps a lot to plant deer resistant plants so you're fitting into their habitat without spraying and respraying. If you look at a High Country Gardens catalog (or online), they tell which plants that deer don't like. It really helps! Good luck! (I've also read that Zest bar soap hung from trees might discourage them...I have no idea if it works).Helpful Reply
