New LIGHTING but what to do with the long wall

Z on Jul 30, 2015I love your new island light. You have a lovely home too. As for art over the sofa, it might be better to wait until you get the new sofa. I do like what you have now, but something larger would look very nice too.Helpful Reply

Cdi1659816 on Jul 31, 2015I'm jealous of your big, beautiful airy space. I would try moving the mirror from over the loveseat to the couch & put it a few inches higher. It seems a little big for the love seat & over the couch it should give that end of the room the illusion of being wider instead of giving the whole room length.Helpful Reply

Robin on Jul 31, 2015How about putting a thin console table behind the couch and getting some tall lamps to set on each end. That would give you more lighting when you need it.Helpful Reply

David Gnida on Jul 31, 2015I would put 2 wall sconces in a similar fixture as above the island. Same color. One that kinda sticks out a bit and bends downwards. They have pretty nice ones out now that would compliment the island light.Helpful Reply

Caryn on Jul 31, 2015I think the ideas are good with the mirror but try to lighten the frame when you get your new couches. moving the mirror will bring in more reflected light and if it doesn't interfere with reflecting on TV screen. Seems better spread out there among your prints. Your wall now with the mirror is cramped in comparison to the other. The two art objects is enough. Also put lighter throws on the couches to lighten it up and give contrast. I love the walls and can see why you want to go lighter. Would like to see pair of matching curtains on that one window instead of a valance to pull the rooms together. Adding height is the right direction with that one side of room. Need some cool lamp on the open side of the couch with a long neck and/or tall shade on an end table or a floor lamp with a sturdy present to hold it's own. The window can balance the other side if budget is a concern. Lighting is one of the most important things and easiest to change for updating. Your kitchen is lovely, your house is very nice and neat and looks very welcoming and warm, Congrats on a good jobHelpful Reply

Ksm9542 on Jul 31, 2015For now, rearrange the pictures, sconce, and the picture on a shelf into a grouping-giving it some height - rather than horizonal row until you get your new couch. This would tie in with the height of the entertainment center as well as the cabinets in the kitchen.Helpful Reply

Dawn Corrigan on Jul 31, 2015Give it a long rectangular frame with a picture in it you love. Split picture mosaic? (One complete picture split up in sections).Helpful Reply

Dee on Aug 01, 2015If you have a picture you love, but it is too small for the wall, have it enlarged over at Office Depot. They do engineering blueprint copies of various sizes. You can then make a frame to mount it too and hang it. These type of prints can be cheaper than some paintings.Helpful Reply

Debbie Westgate- Guyot-Sliwa on Aug 01, 2015Kirklands usually has great pics but I'm also trying to find a new one, but my colors are light turquoise with corals, reds etc, and it's hard to find something that isn't too flowery! Good luck to you!Helpful Reply

Cath windmueller on Feb 09, 2016Perhaps you could use several different shapes and sizes of art and use sconces, frames or small shelves to make into a gallery wall. You could paint all of the pieces to match or be bold and leave them as they are. The area is above the sofa is large enough to do this to.Helpful Reply
