How to Update Your Fireplace With Stone

Our fireplace was never the style that I would have chosen if we had built our home ourselves. However, it was a big job, and I had to do a lot of thinking and research before I decided the direction to take. We actually went through a couple of iterations of this space by the time it was all said and done.
The fireplace started out tiled, and just wasn't the look and feel that we wanted. Here is a peek at how the fireplace looked shortly after we moved in to our home. Not awful, but just not our style, and honestly, it didn't seem to really fit with the style of the home as a whole either.
There was a fair amount of blood, sweat and more than a fair share of tears, but I am proud to say that I tackled this project myself and gave it a complete facelift. Did it get ugly before it became pretty? Yes. Was it worth it? YES!
The room as a whole has gone through quite a transformation, and the fireplace was the icing on the cake. Here is a look at the room before we moved in:
