Thinking Outside the Mailbox
by

Here in Canada, Canada Post is phasing out house-to-house delivery of mail and replacing them with group mailboxes at the entrance to developments or the end of streets. I’m not ready to say goodbye to my beloved mailbox, and with every repurposing project involving mailboxes it is becoming clear that my beloved mailboxes can remain part of our abodes.
Above is my neighbour Fiona's lovely Victorian-style house mailbox that I was allowed to play with.
The house front mailbox that I rescued from a demolition site, the one that awakened me to the infinite potential for repurposing mailboxes from delivery to décor,
The lovely birds egg blue and rust mailbox rescued from a rural roadside and welcomed into my garden.
With a little imagination mailboxes can replace (or enhance) wreaths as greeting décor at the entrance to our homes or gardens. I'm currently working on several more mailbox projects including season décor and turning them into birdhouses. If you share my love of this social icon keep an eye on my blog.
