Changing my master bedroom closet door

See2047239 on Aug 11, 2015Hi Since I can't see the door opening probably the easiest way is to have the hinges reversed on the jamb. It would be a simple task for a carpenter.Helpful Reply

Dorothy Collett on Aug 11, 2015There are bifold doors, old fashioned and narrows the door opening but could work; or a weighted curtain with a interesting hook or knob to drape it over when you are going in and out.Helpful Reply

Gail on Aug 11, 2015Undo the hinges from the door frame (leave them on the door). Flip the door upside down and reattach the hinges to the other side of the door frame to open out. You will have to move the catch to the other side, too. Replace the pieces of wood on the frame on the side that used to have the hinges on it. The door knob may not be exactly where you want it, but you can leave it and get used to the higher placement or cut a new hole for the knob and decoratively cover the old hole.Helpful Reply

Z on Aug 12, 2015A photo would certainly help. Without it I agree that I'd remove the current door and jam and turn them around.Helpful Reply

Jim L on Aug 12, 2015With a six-panel door that opens in, there is a lot of wasted space. What I have done for several clients is to split the door down the middle and have it hung so that it opens out from the middle. this takes up so much less space and still allows you to hang some things on the back of the door. It also will match the rest of the doors in your house.Helpful Reply

Jim L on Aug 12, 2015Eileen, it all depends on who you get to do the work. I would take a stab at roughly 200$. There is time involved in doing the hinges...even if it is a little more, you will be so pleased with the results. Hope that you like the end product as much as I do.Helpful Reply

Anna on Sep 11, 2015I would buy a pre-hung door and just take out the old jamb and door and replace it with the new.Helpful Reply
